Elkhart man named state duck-calling champ
Thomas Kreuter claimed the top spot Saturday at the Indiana State Duck Calling Contest in Indianapolis. The event qualified him to compete at the World’s Duck Calling Championship on Nov. 24 where he hopes to wow the judges again.
The world’s championship is held annually in Stuttgart, Ark. as part of the Wings Over the Prairie Festival. The contest unites the top duck-callers from around the country who battle it out for cash prizes.
This past weekend’s statewide contest was not Kreuter’s first exposure to duck-calling competitions. He won the Indiana State Open Novice Duck contest last year, according the waterfowl hunting network www.callingducks.com. He has also competed in Hammond, Ind., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Pittsfield, Ill.
