Police responding to crashes, slide-offs throughout Elkhart County

ELKHART — As the temperatures hover around the freezing point this morning, area police and paramedics are responding to slide-offs and crashes across the county.

Elkhart paramedics went to the 2200 block of Greenleaf Boulevard when a car struck a brick wall shortly before 8:30 a.m. Elkhart dispatch said five crashes total, only one with minor injuries reported, have been called in since the snow/rain mix started shortly after 7 a.m.

In the same time frame, Elkhart County dispatch has received calls for five crashes and three slide-offs. Nappanee Police reported one accident.

The precipitation is expected to become all rain over the next several hours as the temperature rises toward today’s expected high of 43 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
