Students raising funds to Stop the Bieber at Goshen High School

Goshen’s freshman class is raising money for both its graduation and The Window in Goshen by playing Justin Bieber’s “Baby” throughout the day.
Until the class reaches its goal $1,000, “Baby” will blast over Goshen’s intercoms before school, after school and during every passing period, said Joel Gonzalez, a Spanish teacher and freshman class adviser at Goshen.
Gonzalez said he thought the “Stop the Bieber” campaign had brought in around $500 as of midday Friday.
“It’s heard in every single classroom, in the commons and in all the hallways,” he said. “It’s been nuts.”
Some students have been annoyed by the stunt, a few wearing headphones when not in class to block out the Bieber, Gonzalez said.
To make things more interesting, Gonzalez organized several other teachers as a flash mob Thursday morning. Before class, one teacher began dancing in the high school’s commons area, followed by several more teachers, to organized steps Gonzalez had taught the group. A video of the performance was posted on YouTube and can be found by searching for “Goshen High School Flash Mob” on YouTube.com.
The freshman class got the idea for “Stop the Bieber” after hearing about other schools holding similar fundraisers.
“A lot of staff have been like ‘Stop this right now,’” Gonzalez said. Some students have complained “and some kids absolutely love it.”
