ELKHART — He’s no stranger to the area, but Willie Nelson will be coming to Elkhart for the first time.

The country legend will perform at the Lerner Theatre on April 13. It will be his first show in the area since March 2011 at the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend.

He also performed at Coveleski Stadium with Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp for a Fourth of July concert in 2009.

Lerner general manager David Smith said that talking to promoters, “Willie Nelson was always a name that had been floated past us, and it finally came to fruition.”

Smith said that getting a performer like Nelson solidifies the success that the Lerner has had in drawing people to its shows.

“The success of headline acts at the Lerner is paramount because the more successes promoters experience, the more opportunities they will present,” he said.

The theater has also hosted George Jones and Kansas, but this will be its biggest star yet. Ticket prices range from $49.50 to VIP orchestra pit and private boxes at $102.50. Only eight tickets will be allowed per person. Tickets will be on sale starting at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at area locations including the Lerner box office at 410 S. Main St. You can also call 293-4469 or go to www.thelerner.com.
