Elkhart man accused of impersonating a police officer
Posted: 02/09/2012 at 8:00 am

NEW PARIS — An Elkhart man is accused of impersonating a police officer this morning after police stopped him at the intersection of C.R. 9 and S.R. 119.

Malcolm Royer, 23, was stopped around 1:45 a.m. today after he attempted to pull over a car using flashing red and blue lights, Elkhart County Lt. Travis Adamson said. Police were notified of the impersonation when one of the occupants of the car called police, suspecting the person wasn't a law enforcement official, Adamson said.

Adamson said Royer was displaying the lights using a cell phone, so the male and female occupants of the car never believed he was actually an officer.

Royer was arrested on a preliminary felony charge of impersonating an officer, according to police reports.
