SOUTH BEND — South Bend Police have arrested three people in connection with the theft of a children’s donation container from the city’s south side Walmart.

Steven Hook Jr., 31, Kayla Kerr, 21, and Steven Taylor, 27, were arrested in connection with the Feb. 6 theft of a donation container for Riley Hospital for Children Tuesday morning, according to a press release from the South Bend Police Department.

The trio was riding in a stolen car when they were stopped by officers, and the stolen container was found in the trunk, according to the release. Police say they are linked to other shoplifting-like thefts in St. Joseph County as well as other crimes.

The people involved in the recent Elkhart County theft of the Children’s Miracle Network donation can at a Walmart location in the Elkhart area were identified after the sheriff’s department released a picture of the suspect car, according to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday. The case has been sent to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review, but police in Elkhart County are not yet releasing the names.
