Elkhart fugitive arrested after suffering gunshot wound in Tennessee

Necko Purnell, 20, of Elkhart, was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his left thigh Saturday night and later booked at the Madison County Jail on preliminary charges of being a fugitive from justice, filing a false report and criminal impersonation, according to The Jackson Sun.
Jackson police were notified of a shooting around 10:20 p.m. Saturday, and the victim, Purnell, had been taken to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left thigh. He told police two masked men shot and robbed him in an apartment in the 100 block of Railroad Street, The Jackson Sun reports.
Police learned that the victim had provided a false name to them and found that he was wanted for robbery in Indiana. A hold was placed on him for the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
Purnell was listed in the Crime Stoppers Wanted of the Week Jan. 29, and he is wanted for robbery while armed with a deadly weapon for an incident June 29. On that date, two men entered Elkhart Diamonds and Gold, 140 E. Hively Ave., Elkhart, and displayed a gun before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash. Court records show a warrant was issued for his arrest Dec. 21 and his bond was set at $75,000.
