Police seek suspects in series of charity thefts
Posted: 02/03/2012 at 3:58 pm

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department has released a photo of a car that has been used by suspects stealing donation canisters from local Walmarts.

At least two males have been seen stealing Children’s Miracle Network donation canisters on several occasions at Walmarts around the county. The thefts, which generally happen at night, involve a brown two-door Chrysler with a white passenger side panel and Michigan plate pulling up to the front of the store near the doors. One male gets out of the car, goes inside and grabs the 4-foot-tall canister from the store lobby. A second male opens the car door, the first returns with the canister and the car drives away.

The Elkhart Truth reported Tuesday that Walmart stores in Goshen and Elkhart had reported such a crime in the last week.

If anyone has information about this vehicle or the suspects involved in these crimes, call Detective John Perry at 891-2356.
