DAS DUTCHMAN ESSENHAUS: An all-gauge train show will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 18. SAINT PATRICK’S CENTER: Fiddler’s Hearth will present a traditional Burns Nicht to celebrate the birthday of “Auld Lang Syne” writer Robert Burns beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at the center, corner of Western and Scott streets, South Bend. Cocktails, appetizers and live Scottish music will be followed by a dinner at 6:45 p.m. with a menu consisting of Burns’ favorite foods. Vegetarian options may be arranged in advance. “Happy Squares Square Dance Group”:The once-a-week class meets from 3 to 5 or 5:30 p.m. Sundays, teaching the basics and mainstream calls as well as all the possible calls that can be worked in during the course. The square dance and line dance lessons will finish around the end of March. The first two lessons are free, with all lessons in the basement of Grace Lutheran Church, 831 W. Marion St. Roger Knapp will be the caller for square dancing lessons, with Mike McCarty handling the line dancing lessons. BAINTERTOWN PARK: Join an interpretive naturalist from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at the park, 67380 C.R. 29, New Paris, for a look into the rich history of the river otter in Indiana and why its population has fluctuated over the past 75 years. Information on local efforts and successes of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ River Otter Reintroduction Program in Elkhart County will be available. Participants will visit a popular feeding area for otters during this time of year, looking for signs of activity like tracks and scat.
