We raise Great dnaes and for this reason have a doggy door in our home for them to get out to do their business in the yard. We have cats as well and withthis doggy door occassionally a few of our cats brave going thru to the outside but almost never leave our deck patio. They generally just lay on the deck and sun bathe. We live in a subdivision that is our in the counrtry and the neighbor we do have , we have always had very good repores with.
On one particular day one of our cats - Icky is his name - decided to wonder away from home a distance and apparaently ended up in the next subdiviion to us. He had come up missing at home and our children were going door to door asking if any one had seen him and posted posters with his picture. We are great animal lovers and our kids were just frantic of what had happened to Icky.
After a few days of going door to door and not getting any information we all became even more upset and concerned of what happened to him. My oldest daughter called the vets in our area and the shelters to see if anyone may have brought him in.
The shelter wouldnt look to tell us if they had any cats by Ickys description. They told us we would have to come in and check fro ourselves of which we did.
they place wasnt packed with animals. There were alot of empty cages all about. they wouldnt let my daughter go back with me at all to even look for Icky so I went alone. I was shocked to actually find him there. We live so far away from the shelter and so far in the country that we never would have thought we would actually find him there.
So I told the lady I had found him - but they wouldnt let me touch him. I said hey thats my cat and Im taking him home and I want to hold him so he knows everythings ok now that were here. They flatly refused to let me touch my cat and whats more told me I couldnt take him with us.
My daughter was frantic and we were all furious. I called my fiance and he got as hot as we did. They told us I would have to come back the next day with 100.00 plus proof that my cat had a rabies shot or proof that I had made an appointment prepaid for him to have one ro I couldnt have him.
You know trying to stay calm myself and keep my daughter calm and leaving our cat behind was very difficult to do.
The next day I drove an hour to our vets and an hour back plus another 45 min.s to the shelter from where I was with all the information they had requested and wanted my cat.
They were very nice to me but when I walked back to the area where he had been kept and I wasnt aloud to go alone - what cages they did have with animals were almost all empty. There were only like three cats and three dgs anywhere!!!
There assured me that my cat was fine because they had put a sign on his cage that read " Do NOT PTS" . I was so sick inside all of the animals I had seen the day before were all gone. The place was nop where near full at all that day. My cat almost ended up in that case. I was fuming!!!
I got my cat and took him home but to make matter worse after all of that he came home so so sick. According to there records Icky was broght in tot them the vert same day he came up missing from home. I cannot understand how we wouldve wound up there or why. He rarely leaves the dack as I said and our neighborrrrrrrrrrrrrsd us are all very freindly.
Icky came home with feline leukemia. He infective the rest of all of our cats when we brought him home. S
I dont know how or why our cat ended up where he did but even in the scenerio that possibly someone didnt recognize or know him and thought they were doing some grand gesture this was disaster. You see we have five kids and like everyone else in our comunity only one of us is working now due to the economy but our pets are our family too and we dont hesitate to do for them as we would any other member of our family. We dont disgard our pets because we have less income.
We paid 140.00 to get our cat home and safe. He should have never wound up there to begin with. But that 140.00 came out of our groceries and bill money. We did without to insure he got home. Only to find out that he was infected while he was there but no one told us this or even warned us of the possibility. We got him home where he infected our other cats and now we have a house full of very sick pets that we never bargained for and are trying to prep our children now for the time to lose them one by one to illness. There is no cure for this illness.
Heres my feeling. In our case we live in the country . If we see animals lose here which is rare we figure out where they belong and get them home. Our neighbors do the same. I dont know who would or why - take our cat to the shelter the very day he wondered from home. Its terribly upsetting. Someone probably thought they were being a good sameritan that wasnt from this area. Regardles sout of this it cost our family 140.00 and we as a family agreed to have a shortage of money for food and bills to get our cat home and so we did, and now its cost is many vet bills and one by one we will lose our cats now. It has turned our home upside down.
People - I cant speak for everyone but most animals have homes and families that love them like us. If you pick these guys up and run them to the pund they cant make it home. Some people dont even know to look there. We really didnt think to look there at all considering our location. We thought there was no way he could be there. It has as I said devistated our family now in a trickle down effect.
One day I went in to this place and they were about hlaf to three fourths full and the very next day no animals. Something is VERY WRONG with that policy. I will never take an animals to the pound -ever!!!Not a kill shelter. They put all of those animals to sleep. Thats what they told me.
This is wrong.Try worrying about you and your own. in our case our cats and animals almost never leave our deck.We do care for and love our pets. Other people do to. I am just sick inside . All of those animlas killed for nothing. Our aolmost was one of them.
The vet bills and still we cant save our cats - our family members - all because someone took our cat to the pound.

I know all to well also about the Humane Society. What happen to all the dogs? The director which then was a man said we do not put down any animals here in the Shelter in Bristol Indiana. When we got out dog from the Shelter I was just amzed of all of the cats and dogs that people just dump off, with no remorse at all. But, when out dog came up missing we went to the Shelter and the stray dogs in there feces and the smell. I felt so badly but no Max. They showed no remorse at all the employee's at the Shelter. I also could not believe that almost all the Dogs was gone! What happened, they couldn't had been adopted out. When we back the second time to see if our dog was there the employee said I could bring a picture in and I did. She showed no signs at all of caring. She was a very different woman whom is very noisy and uncaring about her job. She took the picture and yes only ONE could go back as if e was going to take off with an animal and no Max. The picture I just put back into my purse and knew then that he might had been put down and we would never know. Not sure if that is good or bad, of not knowing. I am sure that someone took him and is breeding him out. He was to be nuetured on May 11. Well, he is a Mix and if anyone out there thinks he 's full blooded they will be shock to know he isn't! When we originally bought him from a guy in 4 Acres he look to be a Min Pin WRONG! Max got bigger and he was abused by the previous owners. So, he will be a half breed dog to who ever if at all is breeding him and thinking he's a MIN Pin, cause he is not at all. He's a half Terrier and he was the best dog ever!
