Prep Gymnastics: Wawasee Sectional — Central takes team title

SYRACUSE -- Central High School gymnastics won the second team title in school history Saturday when it won the Wawasee Sectional.

 

And the No. 14-ranked Blue Blazers did it in record-breaking fashion, setting school records for varsity team points (107) and varsity floor points (27.45). The old marks -- set this winter -- were 105.8 and 27.1.

 

Senior Carlisha Carr was the champion for both the balance beam and floor exercise and junior Desi Mosiman (third in the all-around, third on the bars, fourth on the floor), freshman Holly Lehman (fourth in the all-around, fifth on the bars, fifth on the beam) and junior Andrea Kuruda (tied for fourth in the vault, sixth in the all-around, sixth on the bars) were also top-six event finishers while helping Central win its first second title since 2006.

DeKalb (103.8) and Warsaw (101.35) placed 2-3. The top three teams plus the top six placers in each event advance to Friday's Valparaiso Regional.

 

Wawasee (98.275) placed fourth as a team, but will be represented by junior Darian Conard (second on the bars, tied for sixth in the vault) and senior Kelsey Kaiser (tied for fourth in the vault) at regional.
