While our family is more fortunate today than we used to be due to my husband's recent change in employment, I have not forgotten the constant financial struggle we went through with his previous employer's minimal health benefits.

Because of the triple whammy of high insurance premiums, poor coverage and high deductibles, we paid much of our health care costs out of pocket. Yes, we got sick. Yes, our kids played sports and had accidents. Bankruptcy was always at our door as we fought the downward spiral trying to pay our mortgage, utilities and buy food for four children while being hounded by bill collectors for past-due doctor, hospital and laboratory bills.

Sound familiar? For too many Americans, this is a constant way of life. We now have a chance to make a monumental change and fix a broken health care system. Call Congressman Joe Donnelly and Sens. Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar and tell them that it's time to get behind President Obama's health care reform legislation. If we don't do it now, more Indiana families risk financial ruin.
