GOSHEN -- Russell B. Owens, 82, of 2011 Bashor Road, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday (Dec. 14, 2009) in The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Elkhart.
He was born June 4, 1927, in Goshen to Marion and Eunice (Shoup) Owens. On Sept. 11, 1964, he married Phyllis Curtland in Goshen.
She survives with eight children, Mike (Mary) Owens of Laguna Hills, Calif., Richard "Rick" Neumann, Jessica (Bobby Rias) Hollar, Rhonda (Lloyd) LeCount and Susan Rutley, all of Goshen, Michael (Shiela) Neumann of Kingman, Ariz., Jeff (Vickie) Owens of Warsaw and Jennifer (Tripp) Starnes of Bonita Springs, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Owens worked as a service manager for General Motors Corp. for more than 50 years in Indiana, Colorado and Arizona. During that time he served with the Goshen Police Department. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps from August 1945 to August 1946.
He was a member of American Legion Post 143, Bristol, and DAV Chapter 15, Goshen. Mr. Owens was a 1945 graduate of Goshen High School and attended Elkhart Business College.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen. The funeral service with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Tonda Martin, chaplain at the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
