PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Richard James "Dick" Wedge, 68, died Saturday (Nov. 21, 2009) after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Bristol, Ind., to Byron and Marie Wedge. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Duke, Patrick and Terry Wedge.
His companion and care provider of more than 38 years, Jerry L. Maynard, survives, as well as two sisters, Delores (Bob) Ash of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Patricia (Bill) Schwab of Elkhart, Ind.; and two brothers, Ronald Wedge of Elkhart and Johnnie Wedge of Goshen, Ind.
Mr. Wedge was a U.S. Army veteran who served two tours in Vietnam, earning two Purple Hearts, one Bronze Star, one Silver Star and the Army Commendation Medal. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in Fort Worth, Texas, after 27 years of service and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Booster Club.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Nov. 27, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial is in Barrancas National Cemetery.
