LUELLA G. HUFFMAN

WAKARUSA -- Luella G. Huffman, 87, of Wakarusa, formerly of North Webster, died at 3:40 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 22, 2009) in Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Wabash County to Carver R. and Etta Cora (Thomas) Smith. On March 14, 1944, she married Ernest E. "Tag" Huffman in New York City. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Ernest E. Jr. and Thomas Leon Huffman; three brothers, Alva, Claude and Glen Smith; and two sisters, Ethel Briner and Edith Smith.

Mrs. Huffman is survived by one daughter, Rhonda (Wayne) Loucks of Goshen; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cleo Maple of North Manchester and Goldie Frohriep of Sturgis, Mich.; and one brother, Rollin (Montra) Smith of Kokomo.

A 1940 graduate of Chester High School, North Manchester, she was a homemaker and co-owner and operator of the Dixie Boat and Camp from September 1960 to October 1980. She was a member of the North Webster Church of God and the Wawasee Camp of Gideon's Auxiliary.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fountain Park Cemetery, 700 S. Main St., Winchester. The Rev. Vernie Huffman will officiate.
