QUENTIN SCHLOTTERBACK

ELKHART -- Quentin "Ham" Schlotterback, 90, of Elkhart, died at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 17, 2009) in Woodland Manor.

He was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Elkhart to Vernon E. and Bessie A. (Williams) Schlotterback. On July 16, 1973, he married Mary M. (Woodworth) Kapsa in Carson City, Nev.

She survives along with three daughters, Patti (Verl) Riegsecker and Christine Gouygue, both of Indianapolis, and Barbara Frechette of San Francisco; one stepson, Rick (Becky) Kapsa of Granger; four grandsons, Hans Lillejord of Crystal, Minn., Jonathan Frechette of San Francisco, Nicholas Kapsa of Astin, Texas, and Dustin Kapsa of Chicago.; one granddaughter, Jacqueline Frechette of San Francisco; and two great-grandchildren, Ian and Dana Lillejord, both of Crystal.

Preceding him in death were one stepson, James E. Kapsa on May 24, 2007, in South Bend; and three brothers and three sisters.

He retired in 1980 from the Selmer Co., where he was employed for 30 years. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1937 and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Quentin survived the sinking of the USS Yorktown at the Battle of Midway.

Friends may call one hour prior to today's noon funeral service at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. Pastor Ray Caudill of Willowdale Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, with Elkhart DAV Chapter 19 rendering military honors.

Memorials may be given to Southern Care Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
