OSCEOLA -- Eleanor Anna Haney, age 86, of Osceola, and a former longtime Burr Oak, Mich., resident, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 19, 2009, in her home.
She was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Burr Oak, a daughter to the late Levi and Hattie (Schallhorn) Hill. Eleanor had been living with her daughter for the past 11 years. Prior to that, she had resided her whole life in Burr Oak and graduated from Burr Oak High School.
On Feb. 5, 1946, she married Norman Haney in Centreville, Mich. He died Jan. 4, 1992. Mrs. Haney was a homemaker and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. She enjoyed crocheting, animals, gardening and word-find games.
She is survived by three daughters, Anna (James) VanNest of Sturgis, Mich., Joyce (Kenneth) Brackett of Burr Oak and Theresa (Neil Redick) Grose of Osceola; one son, Michael (Anna) Haney of Casa Grande, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosie Miller of Burr Oak; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Norman Lee Haney; one grandson, James Richard VanNest; one sister, Doris Bennett; and three brothers, Eugene Hill, George William Hill and Albert Hill.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes-Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Eleanor Haney will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. The Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service in the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
