NAPPANEE -- Gertrude W. Ritter, 93, of Nappanee, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 31, 2009) in LuAnn Nursing Home in Nappanee.
She was born July 9, 1916, in Bremen to Oliver Roth and Theresa Schultz. On Oct. 28, 1933, she married Richard Evans. He died Dec. 4, 1954. On Nov. 23, 1955, she married Walter Ritter. He died Oct. 20, 1987.
Mrs. Ritter is survived by three grandsons, Paul Jr., John C. and Arthur C. Evans; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Paul Melvin Evans Sr., and two brothers, Harold and Noble Roth.
Mrs. Ritter moved to Nappanee in 1926 and worked at Trudy's Beauty Salon, Milford, as a beautician for 25 years. She also worked at G.L. Perry, Nappanee. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and White Shrine, Elkhart, and was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Homes, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee. An Eastern Star memorial service will be at 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thelma Megill-Cobbler of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Leesburg Cemetery.
