LEO S. RADKEY

GOSHEN -- Leo Sanford Radkey, 91, of 2400 College Ave., died at 7:21 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 29, 2009) in The Courtyard.

He was born Sept. 30, 1917, in Goshen to Andrew and Murel (Sanford) Radkey. On Nov. 23, 1946, he married Marie Keil in Goshen. She died Sept. 30, 1979.

Mr. Radkey is survived by two daughters, Rita Radkey of Goshen and Carol (Jeffrey) Blair of Leesburg; two sons, Jeffrey Radkey of Syracuse and Thomas (Janet) Radkey of Dubois, Wyo.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Radkey, on Nov. 15, 2003; and four siblings, Arlene and Doris Keil, Betty West and Robert Radkey.

Mr. Radkey owned Radkey Monument Works, Goshen, and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the VFW and DAV, both in Goshen. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 during World War II and saw action in Guadalcanal, New Britain and the Palau Islands. He was a private pilot.

Friends may call from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen. The Rev. Christopher Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery.
