BREMEN -- Dorthea I. (Weldy) Penrose, 74, of 224 High Road, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday (March 9, 2009) in her home.

She was born March 17, 1934, in Bremen to Irvin and Lola (Pittman) Weldy.

Ms. Penrose is survived by four children, Emmert (Kathleen) Johnson of Woodland, and Jason (Debra) Penrose, Teresa (Allan) Young-Barts and Michaelie (Steve) Penrose-Forsythe, all of Bremen; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and eight siblings, Blanche (Joseph) Uriedneck, Treva (John) Slusser, Eva (Cliff) Hawkins, Arvin and Clifford Weldy, Cleo (June) Weldy, Marvin (Goldie) Weldy and Joseph C. (Lorraine) Weldy, all of Bremen.

She was preceded in death by one son, Roy "Bud" Penrose Jr., and eight siblings, Berna Edel, Nina Heltzel, Ferne Kaylor, Noble "Tubby", Clayton "Buck", Wayne Edward, Dale Robert and Norman Weldy.

A former nurse's aide at Bremen Healthcare, Ms. Penrose enjoyed gardening, crocheting and baking.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fair Cemetery, Lakeville, at the corner of Stanton and Oak roads. Chaplain Thomas Padberg will officiate.

Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee, helped with arrangements.

Memorials may be given to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
