EDITH M. JOHNS

GOSHEN -- Edith M. Johns, 85, of 1801 Greencroft Blvd., died at 9:50 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 5, 2009) in her home.

She was born May 1, 1923, in Goshen to John Maynard and Mandella (Bachtel) Hoover. On May 16, 1943, she married Galen Johns at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church.

He survives along with one daughter-in-law, Jeanette Johns of Sheridan, Mich.; four children, Steven (Debra) Johns of Goshen, Lois (Jim) Kaufmann of New Paris, Loren (Rachel) Johns of Goshen and Lindale (Melanie) Johns of Benton; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Lowell (Velorous) Hoover, Miriam (Vernon) Bontreger, Arlene Hershberger and Lucile (Menno) Chupp, all of Goshen; two half siblings, Ruth (Dale Patten) Hoover of New Paris and John M. Hoover of Glen Flora, Wis.; and one sister-in-law, Edna Hoover of Goshen.

She was preceded in death by one son, Joe Alan Johns; one daughter, Rachel Nanlee; two brothers, Norman Richard and Donald Hoover; and her stepmother, Hilde Hoover.

Mrs. Johns was a pastor's wife and a professional quilter who lived locally except for six years in Ontario, Canada. She was a member of Benton Mennonite Church and Goshen Aphasia Support Group, and was involved with many church quilting circles in the area.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to Sunday's 2:30 p.m. funeral service at Benton Mennonite Church. Pastors Brenda Meyer and Doug Kaufman will officiate. Burial will be in Benton Lutheran Cemetery.
