Two men were injured when their minivan hit a horse that had strayed into the roadway north of Millersburg Thursday night.
Jeremy Wingard, 21, of Ligonier, was driving north on S.R. 13 north of C.R. 34 when a horse ran into his path around 9:10 p.m., according to a crash report from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department.
The van collided with the horse, sending the horse through the windshield and pinning the front-seat passenger, 18-year-old Doyle Wingard of Shipshewana.
Doyle Wingard was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with internal head injuries and a broken wrist. He was listed in serious but stable condition, according to the report. Jeremy Wingard suffered head pain.
The horse was killed on impact.
The owner of the horse was cited for allowing the horse to stray into the roadway, police said.
