The son of Brian and Jan Ramer, Jesse has one sibling, sister Alyssa, a sophomore at Bethany.
ARMED WITH AN INSIDER'S PERSPECTIVE NOW, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE IHSAA IF YOU HAD THAT POWER?
"I think the IHSAA is changing a lot already. They're doing so much with the idea of encouraging sportsmanship, which I think is important. They're doing everything in their power to push that around the state. I don't have anything else I'd change right now."
HANK WILLEMS CALLS YOU AS GOOD A LEADER AS HE'S EVER COACHED. WHAT MAKES AN EFFECTIVE LEADER?
"I'd say communication between players and coaches, and telling your teammates they have to work harder, but in turn, knowing that you have to work hard. You have a responsibility to work as hard as what you're telling somebody else to do."
YOU'RE WHAT'S KNOWN AS A 'FISH HEAD' AT BETHANY. EXPLAIN WHAT THAT IS.
"We have two fish fries a year that are the major fund-raiser for the senior class trip. Roughly 3,000 people come to those. Each class votes on who they want to head those up, one boy and one girl. Corine Alvarez is my co-fish head. We make sure we have all the supplies, set up jobs for other students, and we do have parent volunteers. The juniors take over in the spring and then they do the one in the fall as seniors. Our fall one is October 30th and we're already starting to plan it.
BETHANY DOESN'T HAVE FOOTBALL. DESCRIBE HOW POPULAR SOCCER IS HERE.
"The whole school pretty much knows when it's a game night. It's something everybody looks forward to, and we have different themes for different games. Basketball's pretty popular, but among just students, soccer might be even more popular or at least as popular. Part of that is soccer having the most participants."
WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS ON THE FIELD, AND WHAT PART OF YOUR GAME NEEDS IMPROVEMENT?
"I'd like to get better as far as one-on-one attacking and finishing. I think my strengths are vision and ability to pass the ball, but there's always room to get better."
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS BEYOND BETHANY?
"I'd like to play soccer in college (Michigan State and Illinois-Chicago are Division I programs that have expressed interest). As far as study-wise, maybe business, or something else where I get to work with people."
