GOSHEN -- The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash of a helicopter late last week south of the Goshen Municipal Airport that injured the two occupants aboard.

The mishap occurred around 10:30 a.m. last Thursday as the Enstrom 280FX helicopter was attempting an emergency landing in a field about a half mile south of the airport, according to Zane Gillin. He's president of Goshen Air Center, an aircraft maintenance company at the airport.

One of the helicopter's occupants was evaluated at Goshen General Hospital and released after the accident. The other was hospitalized "with injuries that are not considered to be life threatening," Gillin said in a statement that The Elkhart Truth received Sunday.

Gillin said the FAA is investigating the matter and, because of that, declined to release additional information, including names of the two aboard the helicopter. A cause has not been determined.

According to preliminary information on the accident from the FAA, the helicopter suffered substantial damage. The craft's operator suffered minor injury while the single passenger suffered serious injury.

The helicopter's registered owner is TBT Aviation of Findlay, Ohio, according to an FAA database.
