Today marks the seventh annual Michigan Adoption Day, and Cass County is celebrating with the adoption of six children.
The children will be adopted by three families at 2 p.m. Statewide, courts in 30 counties are expected to finalize 225 adoptions, according to a press release from the Cass County Probate Court and Circuit Court Family Division.
The Michigan Supreme Court previously issued a resolution declaring today as Michigan Adoption Day. The day's events in Michigan courts recognizes and celebrates adoptive families and efforts to place children into permanent homes.
Cass County courts report that more than 2,700 children were adopted through the Michigan Department of Human Services and private adoption agencies in fiscal 2009.
