ELKHART -- Three teens are in custody after they allegedly attempted to rob another teen Tuesday night.
Darius Lamar Tate, 17, Dedrick Tyrell Trotter, 17, and Brandy Nicole Burnett, 18, all of Elkhart, face charges of attempted armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery following a probable cause hearing this week, according to a press release from the Elkhart Police Department.
Officers responded Tuesday night to an address on South Nappanee Street to meet with an 18-year-old man reporting that an acquaintance and two others tried to rob him at gunpoint, police said.
The man told officers he was contacted by a female acquaintance about buying a laptop. He agreed to purchase the computer, and they arranged to meet on Columbus Drive.
When he arrived, he met with the woman, who was with three of her male acquaintances. One had a shotgun and told the victim he was being robbed of his money, the man told police.
The man told them he left the money for the laptop in his car and when he went back to his vehicle, he managed to drive away, he told investigators.
Police identified Tate, Trotter and Burnett as having a part in the robbery attempt and arrested them on the preliminary charges.
The 17-year-olds were directly waived into adult court. Each of their bonds is set at $200,000.
