CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- More than 180 one-pot meth labs were seized and three people arrested after an investigation by the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team and Indiana State Police Tuesday.
The investigation began Monday when a property owner from Calvin Township reported he discovered meth lab trash that came from one of his properties, according to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff's Department.
The property owner had been transporting the trash to a secondary location in Elkhart when he found the meth-related items.
Elkhart police were notified and contacted Indiana State Police to assist in recovering and disposing of the waste since it was in Indiana, Cass County police said.
Tuesday, the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team contacted the property owner and went to the residence in the 64000 block of Calvin Center Road. Detectives executed a search warrant and found more meth-lab components and waste, meth and marijuana, police said.
Debra Lee Cheatham, 51, of Cassopolis, was arrested and arraigned on preliminary charges of:
* manufacturing meth, two counts;
* conspiracy to manufacture meth;
* operating a meth lab;
* operating a lab with hazardous waste;
* possession of meth;
* felony firearm possession, five counts; and
* maintaining a drug house.
The other woman, Britia Rose Anderson, 28, of Bristol, was arrested and arraigned on charges of possession of meth and frequenting a drug house.
A third person, age 39, was arrested on multiple meth charges and and a weapons charge. That person won't be identified until after arraignment today.
Among three locations investigated in this incident, police said they recovered 188 one-pot meth labs and 234 hydrogen chloride gas generators.
