ORIGINAL STORY:
More than 180 one-pot meth labs were seized and two women arrested after an investigation by the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team and Indiana State Police Tuesday.
The investigation began Monday when a property owner from Calvin Township reported he discovered meth lab trash that came from one of his properties, according to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff's Department.
The property owner had been transporting the trash to a secondary location in Elkhart when he found the meth-related items.
Elkhart police were notified and contacted Indiana State Police to assist in recovering and disposing of the waste since it was in Indiana, Cass County police said.
Tuesday, the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team contacted the property owner and went to the residence in the 64000 block of Calvin Center Road. Detectives executed a search warrant and found more meth-lab components and waste, meth and marijuana, police said.
A 51-year-old Cassopolis resident was arrested on preliminary charges, according to police, of:
* manufacturing meth,
* possessing a lab with hazardous waste,
* possession of meth,
* possession of meth with intent to deliver, and
* maintaining a drug house.
The other woman, a 28-year-old Bristol resident, was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of meth and frequenting a drug house.
Both women are at the Cass County Correctional Facility awaiting arraignment hearings.
Among three locations investigated in this incident, police recovered 188 one-pot meth labs and 234 hydrogen chloride gas generators.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed. Anyone who has information about this incident may call the Cass County tip line at (800) 462-9328.
