Two people were arrested on multiple drug charges during an ICE unit raid on a house in Elkhart last week.
Baldemar Montes Verduzco, 19, and Efren Mendoza Vargas, 33, both of 238 Pottawatomi Drive, were arrested on preliminary charges of possession of meth in excess of 3 grams and possession of marijuana, according to a press release from the Elkhart County prosecutor's office. Both face up to 53 years in prison.
The Elkhart County Interdiction and Covert Enforcement unit served the search warrant on the Pottawatomi Drive home around 8 p.m. Thursday.
Officers seized 1.7 pounds of cystal meth, 482 grams of marijuana, $10,000 cash and one long rifle. Officials estimate the potential street value of the illegal drugs to be around $79,000.
The raid was part of a larger, ongoing investigation into the importation of high-quality meth into the county, according to the release.
