ELKHART -- An afternoon of pets and fashion raised more than $18,000 for the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
The sixth annual Furry Friends Fashion Fair showcased local residents wearing clothing and accessories from Stephenson's and being escorted down the runway by their pets.
Organized by the Humane Society of Elkhart County Volunteer Guild and held Nov. 5 at the Matterhorn Conference Center, the luncheon event also included a meet and greet with Anne Reel, the society's new executive director, a raffle and a silent auction.
Proceeds benefit the society's daily work of caring for unwanted or neglected animals. As of September, the society had taken in 5,261 animals.
Anyone who would like to help, should visit the Humane Society of Elkhart County Web site at www.elkharthumanesociety.org. The society's animal shelter needs dry dog/puppy and cat/kitten food, bleach and latex gloves for cleaning, as well as bird and rabbit food.
