ELKHART -- Elkhart police were out in force Oct. 23, ticketing motorists speeding in a school zone and enforcing the "Move Over Law."
Designed for officer safety, the law requires motorists to either slow down or change lanes when they drive past an emergency vehicle with its lights on. The law was adopted in 1999 after several State Police officers were killed.
Oct. 23s efforts were concentrated along C.R. 17, but there were two other operations within the city.
In total, 114 tickets were issued from the efforts. Fifty-seven tickets were issued for not moving over or slowing down at a traffic stop, while 33 were issued for speeding in a school zone. There were also 4 arrests made.
