A fire at a home in Mottville, just north of Bristol, severely burned one resident and injured a firefighter Wednesday.
White Pigeon firefighters responded to a fire at 70782 Thomas St. around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Steven Anderson, 31, was transported from the scene by helicopter after suffering third-degree burns over 48 percent of his body. He was in critical condition Thursday evening at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
The injured firefighter, whose name was unavailable, was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital for observation.
Michigan State Police at the White Pigeon Post said the fire remains under investigation. Although the cause of the fire is undetermined, police said investigators aren't ruling out the accidental ignition of a kerosene heater in an upstairs bedroom.
