LA PORTE, Mich. -- The American Legion is offering high school students in the area the chance to compete in the 73rd annual American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program.

The invitation is extended by Third District Oratorical Chairman Jim Hewitt of Hamon Gray Post 83 of La Porte. The subject in the eight- to 10-minute Prepared Oration portion of the contest must be on some aspect of the United States Constitution, emphasizing the duties and obligations of a citizen of the United States government. Eligibility is open to any student enrolled in high school, freshmen to seniors. All students must be younger than 20 and must be a U.S. citizen. Registration deadline is Dec. 14.
