GOSHEN -- Julie Dijkstra formally will announce her candidacy Friday in the 2010 election for Elkhart County Sheriff.
Dijkstra, serving as undersheriff at the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, will make the announcement outside the Elkhart County Courthouse in downtown Goshen at 6 p.m.
During the two weeks following the announcement, Dijkstra will participate in several community forums where she will discuss her career, address issues rising as the May primary draws near and answer questions.

* Oct. 9 -- Coffee with the candidate at 6 a.m. at Checkers Cafe, 112 S. Jefferson St., Millersburg
* Oct. 12 -- Community forum at 7 p.m. at Nappanee Center, 302 W. Market St., Nappanee; introduction by Nappanee Mayor Larry Thompson
* Oct. 13 -- Coffee with the candidate at 7 a.m. at Happy Days Cafe, 920 E. Waterford St., Wakarusa
* Oct. 15 -- Community forum at 7 p.m. at the Osolo Township Fire Station, 24936 Buddy St., Elkhart; introduction by Osolo Township Trustee Ben Russo
* Oct. 16 -- Coffee with the candidate at 7 a.m. at Village Inn, 107 S. Main St., Middlebury
