Let's discuss 'UPDATED - It's now official: Notre Dame fires Charlie Weis'.
It's official. According to The Elkhart Truth's Ben Ford, Notre Dame football coach has been fired.
Rob Ianello, ND's wide receivers coach, will take over all football operations until a new coach is in place, according to Ford, who is on the Notre Dame campus.

| Finally. Now, what is this going to cost to buy him out? How much more tuition will it take?

| Jaf, He still had 6 years left on the contract at 2.2 mill per year. As I understand that was gauranteed so it would be about 13+ mil to buy him out.

| The money is irrelevant. The continual mediocrity of this team costs much more in TV revenue and merchandising than any one person's contract could.

Kelly has one more game to win, to go to a bowl. He said that is his concentration right now. If he takes U.C. to a bowl game, he came make some hefty demands. U.C. does not have the money to match Notre Dame but the alumni do and, working for U.C. is a different world than Notre Dame. So who is the second choice?

Not specifically to the foot ball aspect, but it seems like something is wrong with the capitalist system when CEOs and coaches can fail to meet performance standards and still walk away with millions in compensation.
It appears to me that all you have to do is put together a couple winning seasons - get the school to sign a long term contract and then -- what is your motivation to keep the performance level high?
Coach Weis will find another job quickly - the cynic in me sees this as an excellent business move for him.

| mike, A financial windfall for him and a financial goof for Kevin White, former AD at Notre Dame, who gave Weiss an extended contract only 7 games into his Notre Dame career. I am leery (no pun intended) of Coach Kelly at Cincinnati, because of his lack of big-time Division One football. The only major game on U of C's schedule comes this Saturday against Pitt. Brian Stoops makes sense because of his defensive strengths. I put Jim Harbaugh in the same category as Kelly, not enough big-time success, yet. IMO pay Urban Meyer what he wants and let's move him to South Bend.
