Let's discuss 'So long, Sleepy Hollow; hello to Chalet on busy Elkhart thoroughfare'.

The Sleepy Hollow Motel, a dilapidated Cassopolis Street building, is in the process of being demolished and a large new liquor store will soon stand in its place. Jerry Corliss, owner of the Chalet Party Shoppe stores, said he has purchased the north side motel property and hopes to have a new facility built and open sometime this spring. "We ended up going to the city and saying, 'What's the

LOL...gonna tear down the "meth lab building" & put up a liquor store. I guess that a liquor is better than a meth lab, even though BOTH KILL!!!

Jerry may want to have the IDEM do soil testing to make sure they dug the hole deep enough to remove any and all Meth run-off, before building a new facility. I also wonder if anyone has thought about the potential traffic issue involved here.

A few years ago I was out meandering around on my bike and rode down the alley behind the motel.  As I rode by, there were a bunch of guys with a hacksaw trying to cut through another guy's handcuff chain.

Such fond memories of this place...

Not sorry to see Sleepy Hollow go but not happy about another Liquor store on Cass.  You've got the Liquor Station, Rodino's and Continental liquors within a mile or so of that spot.  I guess we wouldn't want the drunk driver's to have to go too far!

The closer the booze is, the less they have to drive. Maybe it's even within walking distance.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Booze less destructive than meth? Questionable.

Two Sleepy Hollow stories now that it is gong to be gone.  I used to work across the street so I can tell you about it.

First was the guy that turned into the parking lot but his wheel fell off of his car and bounced into the front picture window of the lobby.

Second was the incredible explosion of a trailer next to it(Never proven it was meth by the way some said just a gas leak).  Literally bounced me out of my chair and then as I looked across the street saw the fireball roll up and catch the tree above it on fire like a torch.  Then out of the flames a guy singed to a crisp slowly meanders out like a zombie and as people approach him he bums a cigarette and a light and then sits down on the edge of the curb until the ambulence picks him up and he gets in the back like it's a free cab.

The guy lived but spent the next month in the Ft Wayne burn center.  I wouldn't wish 3 weeks in a burn center on Bernie Madoff.
