| While I agree that Charlie has to go I suspect that the problem goes much deeper than just replacing a coach. Notre Dame has, for some time now, suffered a credibility problem. Ever since Father Hesburg retired the school has not been the same. While I cannot put my finger on the problem, It is evident that Notre Dame has been tarnished in many different ways other than just football. Once a revered institution of not only sports but acedemics has become just another private university with extremely high tuition. Inner politics seems to be in force and the lack of strong administrators has become detremental to the university. Notre Dame has always had a love / hate relationship with the public. The is no in between. Either you are a loving fan or you cannot stand the institution but even for those that "hate" there was a respect for it's status. I don't see that any longer. Charlie does need to go. There is no question about that but can the next coach do any better considering the suspected inner problems? I suppose that remains to be seen.

| While always relevent in college football, albeit as a punchline these days, Notre Dame won't be relevent in the chase for BCS championships.

| I'm still not convinced Charlie HAS to go, even though I have said so on this forum. I do continue to see improvement in the team, even some improvement defensively. They sem to be a bit better in t pass defense than the past. There is no question the offense is better than the previous two Clausen years, in fact I would think this is one of most prolific offenses Notre Dame has ever had. But there are problems, BIG PROBLEMS. They still seem to have problems tackling anybody who is running with the ball, and this especially true of the inside runs. There is also the emotional letdowns that happen in every game. But the biggest, and perhaps most problematic for me, is the inability of the coaching staff to adjust during the game. They come out and move the ball well the first two drives of the game, then the opponents tweak a couple of things and shut them down the rest of the half. The Irish come out of halftime and move the ball well again for a couple of possessions and then are shut down again. They don't seem to be able to make those in-game adjustments. Should Charlie go. I don't know. Should the defensive coordinator go. NO question. Ask me tomorrow and I just may feel differently about Charlie.

| Ever watched a movie that dragged and you kept thinking it will get better? I have gone to bed many nights wishing I had gone sooner because that movie sucked and it DIDN'T get better! That's the way i feel about Notre Dame football. I have been a fan of Notre Dame for longer than I care to admit but enough is enough! There are people (like me) that live and die with Notre Dame sports. Every loss is devastating. I just wish those that are in charge over there thought more about the fans.

eliaskable (11/23/2009) While always relevent in college football, albeit as a punchline these days, Notre Dame won't be relevent in the chase for BCS championships.

I almost stopped reading this story when Bill referred to Notre Dame as the "'Rish" (Ooh, how cool!!) and then almost stopped again when it became clear that it was going to be another one of his odes to the greatness of Jimtown.
I really stopped when he attributed Notre Dame's problems to a lack of effort. Let's see ... Clausen's been playing hurt almost all season, Floyd came back a month early from a BROKEN COLLARBONE, Tate gives 1000 percent on every play ... You're right, these guys just aren't trying.
So I didn't make it to the spelling mistakes at the end. The Truth made this guy a supervisor of other professional writers?! Guess what folks, you're not good enough.
