Let's discuss 'Panel won't push breed-specific dog ban in Elkhart animal control ordinance'.

The city's new animal control ordinance won't contain a ban on pit bulls if the city council follows the recommendations of an ad hoc committee. The panel tasked with drafting a new animal ordinance voted on Monday to eliminate the breed-specific legislation from a draft version of the law.

If passed by the council, the new ordinance will make it significantly tougher -- and more expensive -- to own animals deemed to be vicious or dangerous. If a dog attacks or attempts to attack another animal or human, it will be registered as a dangerous animal with the city.

Otherwise known as closing the barn door after the horse has escaped.

Congratulations to the ad hoc committee.  You just wasted a lot of time, probably some money, and accomplished zero.

Please don't pass judgment on something you have not seen. The wording of the ordnance, if set up correctly, will allow for any animal to be dangerous on aggressiveness alone. It will not require a bite to get the attention of animal control. We will never stop all bites unless we don't allow animals in the city but we can stop the owners who are bad or just don't care. If someone wants to ignore fluffy's aggression issue they will have to follow the law to keep her.

Mary Jo is going to put the revisions on the city website when they are done and I will post a link some where in the feedbacks. They are suppose to meet on the 19th of November at 5:00 to go over the rewritten proposal and hear public feedback before voting to send it back to the safety committee.

I didn't.  I saw it right here.
