Let's discuss 'A view for sale: Highest point in Elkhart County goes to auction'.
An auction next week could open up the county's highest point to future possibilities. But whether it's purchased for a ski resort, a sledding hill, a retreat center, a gravel pit or any other use is anyone's guess.

SAVE THE HILL, SAVE THE COUNTY!
The obstacles for those early ski operations are no longer obstacles
1) Internet for marketing and snow reports
2) Better Snow making equipment. They can now make snow more efficiently and at higher temperature (The world leader in snowmaking equipment Joe Cousins got his start at Mt Wawasee http://www.torrentee.com/ His company is 10 miles away in Milford Indiana.)
3) SNOWBOARDING
4) Now it is standard to use resort for Summer time activities. Weddings, Concertss, Jazz Fest, Food Operations, etc.

The economy also has Brian Christner wondering if it will sell. "I don't have a crystal ball," he said Don't worry this article made sure to market it nicely for you. (P.S. I didn't know there used to be a ski place over there. Interesting.)

| I remember going there for the bands and just hanging around while in high school. This article sure brings back a lot of memories. I hope they are able to reopen this to have a fun safe place for the kids to go again. Bless you.

They used to have a parade float and went around to the local parades. They had some music to it that my friend and I changed the words to. It started out like, "Come to Mt. Wawasee, ..." This is for the people that remember the Wawa movie theater.
"Come to the Wawa and see, our X-rated movie"
That was 30 years ago when they had that parade float but I'll always remember the song, or at least the new words we gave the song.
I think the straw that broke the camel's back was we had several years of not enough snow to even make a good base to make snow on. You used to be able to see the ski lift from SR15 but I hadn't seen it in years, probably because of trees I guess. I figured the lift was gone. I'm surprised to find out it's mostly all still there.

| I drove by this afternoon and it is mostly there, but there also seems to be some county buildings on the property. Why? and what are those?

| I'm planning on going out for the open house tomorrow, but there appeared to be some pole buildings on the property that said "County of Elkhart".

Elkhart County owns property adjacent to the property for sale. It used to be a landfill, was closed, sealed, etc. The highway department uses it as a supply point for the southern part of the county. Salt and sand for winter.
We also use it to store or inventory other highway related materials like guard rails, culverts, etc.
