Goshen College administrators are considering a proposal that suggests introducing the national anthem -- in an instrumental version only -- to some sporting events. Nice that goshen college is having dialogue. Would be a disappointment though if they were to change their policy.

Stick to your convictions, GC, not many churches do anymore.

Jamie,

Very nice comment.

As a GC alum and lifelong Mennonite I am not opposed to the playing or the singing of the National Anthem.  After all it is this country that many Anabaptists came to in order to enjoy the freedom that would allow them to worship in the manner that they wish.  I also think it's okay to recognize that freedom came with a price.  I also know that whatever they decide I will support.

My oldest daughter is a GC grad, and to be very honest, I never noticed the "issue" until Mike Gallagher pointed it out...

Seems kind of funny to me that many of the GC Mennonites have abandoned their belief that homosexual relations are wrong, but still protest to the words of the national anthem. I grew up Mennonite, but hear many wacky stories about the radical left leanings of the "progressive" churches such as College Mennonite and First Mennonite in Berne.
