Let's discuss 'Your noise helps pay for new Elkhart police cars and billboards'.
With tall billboards proclaiming the city's noise ordinance and two unmarked police Mustangs enforcing it, some may have noticed recent efforts to douse excessive noise in the area.

| I'm glad to see that something that the elkhart police are doing is actually working!!! YOU GO INDIANA IDIOTS!!! But the hillbilly has a few stupid questions, why do you have to buy some of the most expensive cars? LOL, when i saw that maroon Mustang, I had to LAUGH cuz the cop who drove that car had to ROLL out of the car, it is a very funny sight to see!!! I think if you guys are going to waste the moneys on fast, expensive, hot cars, I would put a hot cop in them cars that can at least get out of the car with ease.(shakes heads & mumbles, indiana idiots) The other stupid question I have is, why on God's earth are you wasting moneys on billboard signs advertising the noise law?!? Are you cops gonna waste even more moneys & place other laws on these billboard signs?!?(chuckles out loud & says indiana idiots) You would think, with this depression we are deeply in, that you could come up with something better to do with money than buy expensive cars & RENT billboards to announce laws upon. You think you would have boosted the 'Ice Police.' Anyway, I'm sure that these indiana idiots can come up with MUCH better ideas for all this extra moneys they are getting out of the noise law. -- Edited by Greg Halling

| YEA WE HERE IN ELKHART SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO BLOW MONEY ON THINGS THAT ARE WORTHLESS! I THINK WE COULD SPEND MONEY ON BILLBOARDS THAT ADVERTISE "JOB" BUT WE KNOW THAT WONT HAPPEN BECAUSE ELKHART IS A GHOST TOWN AND IT WILL GET WORSE.WE WONT BE THE R.V. CAPITAL OF THE WORLD ANYMORE,BUT WE WILL BE THE NOISE ORDINANCE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.

| I see they failed to tell you that it is basically the police officer's idea of what is too loud, and you can get a ticket at noon or 10 pm...there is no time limit on it. So when your outside raking dont have any music on cause a police officer can drive by and give you a $250 ticket IF HE THINKS your music is too loud. Oh and dont bother going to court to fight it, they'll just tell you to see the cashier.....

As published in this article, "...According to the current ordinance, noise that can be heard 35 feet from the origin of the sound is too loud..." Makes one wonder how long before they start writing tickets for leaf blowers, lawn mowers and chain saws? Go ahead and pat yourself on the back for the $$ wasted on billboard advertising Elkhart. Real signs placed at the city's gateways next to those proclaiming this to be 'The city with a heart'; in addition to being more co$t effective, would have given those entering the city better perspective of the realities. There are those that rightfully wonder if this ordinance's enforcement is being utilized to generate revenue or abate a true nuisance.

| Noise that is subjective to what the officer "thinks" is too loud is unenforceble. It will have to have a measurable db level @ a specified distance to hold up. They're hoping that you won't fight it.

I want the noise police to be outside every city councilperson's house as well as the mayor and Brad Vite when they mow their lawns and the police HAD BETTER cite them for noise or they will be doing "selective enforcement". Thrown out in court by their buddy Curtis Hill.

Most noise ordinances have an 85db level at some distance, like 50 feet. That's very loud. One other issue; bass notes travel. If you are thumping along in your car and you believe that your sound system is okay, if the bass notes reflecting from the interior of your car generate bass sounds outside your car, through the transfer of energy to your body panels, you are in violation.
