Let's discuss 'Lack of jobs impacting work-release program'.

In better times, even those behind bars were better off. When the local RV industry was booming, low-level criminal offenders in the Elkhart County Jail were routinely cycled through the work-release program. Eligible inmates would sign out for work, then return to the minimum security detention facility in Goshen after their shifts. With good behavior, they could earn greater freedoms and, eventually, be released to home detention, opening up beds in the facility for other inmates.

"Legalized extorsion" huh? I wonder what he called it when everyone else but him was providing for the four kids he fathered?

I have a good idea since their are no jobs how about allowing those same people to clean up the city paint curbs, plant trees, pick up leves etc their all kind of things that these people can do since unemployment is high. Oh I forgot work release has to make money to so I guess their goes that idea. And yes work-release is extrotion.

U assumed he was not taking care of his kids because he's in jail for child support all that tells me is that he was not paying money to the state he could have been doing other things like taking care of his kids huh!

He's in work release no job on the streets no job what is putting him in work release going to do. Other than put people futher in debt. I don't know if U know that you have to pay for being in work release 80.00 a wk and then you have to buy all of your toliletries from them also I was told in a wk the person who own's the vending machines in that place makes upwards to 5000.00 a wk. Don't know if that's true if so that is insane.

You're right...I assumed that because he was in jail for not paying child support that he was not paying support for his children. He was probably supporting those children outside the system both financially and as an all around parent when the law just incarcerated him for no reason.

And yes, I do know that being in work release costs money. Unfortunately, I've had a family member involved in the program and it's a burden for the whole family. That's why it's probably something one should try to avoid. He didn't and now it's costing him more. Kinda like if you overdraw your checking account by even five bucks...they'll charge you 30 or 40 more dollars for your oversight. Make sense? Fair? Maybe not but that's the way it is.

I guess that I'm tired of people making poor decisions in life and then complaining about the results of those decisions. Man up and shut up.

Work release isn't extortion. The fee charged to be in this program is to help cover costs of them being incarcerated. It is taking some of the tax burden off taxpayers. If you don't like having to pay the fee for this program don't get yourself in the situation where you are arrested to begin with.
Child support is a simple fix also. Keep your pants zipped up or wrap it up before you use it.

Why does he have to pay Work Release before he starts paying the back child support is what I don't understand? How long have his children been waiting for the financial assistance they more than likely need?!? They can hold him there as long as they want for their stinkin' money!
