Let's discuss 'Have your say in how ECS cuts $1 million in budget for student transportation'.
Elkhart Community Schools students and their parents may have some adjustments to make next year in getting to and from school. At Tuesday's public work session the ECS board of trustees received updates from a committee that has been working to trim transportation costs.

| quit busing for racial equality, don't use buses for sporting events, don't make the building program so agressive, and quit building schools with indoor pools and elevators.

| What are people supposed to do for child care? I know there are layoffs, but a ton of people work first shift and can't afford daycare. Is this change going to affect the children and their parents in a positive manner? I only see the problems this can potentially bring.

School buses are like any other vehicle. Less miles traveled equals less gas needed for the journey. A few schools across America are realizing savings by going to the four day week. Obviously, every other expense needs to be cut to the bone so that the kids have a ride to school. Just because a change is made for the upcoming year doesn't mean it can't be changed when things improve. Giving in doesn't mean giving up.
