I doubt this created 58 new jobs. Most likely it transferred 58 jobs from a higher paying job to a lower paying one..with a few unemployed to add.
If hindsight is 20/20...Then why do we look ahead instead of behind?

The Grand Elk railroad, a subsiderary of Watco, tried to buy the rights to the central Michigan line last year (2008) and was blocked by the Federal Government. The first effort to purchase the line offered the old employees flowback protection, moving expenses, cash award for staying and training the new rr employees to facilitate a smooth transition, and numerous other benefits. However, with the current economic environment Watco was able to push it through this spring without much effort and did not follow through with any of its displaced benefits offered to the employees affected by the purchase as it promised a year before. It displaced many more experienced and responible employees than it hired. Unfortunately "The Grand Elk" hired few employees from those they were responsbile for displacing and instead hired from the "fired" pool of the previous railroad. The public have good reason to question the ethics of a company who would hire such individuals to run freight through populous cities-carrying, at times, hazardous materials and dangerous cargo; if the reasons for their firing were known.
