gingles,

Simple links, with an added comment works much better. Also, if your insist on plucking from another poster (Gram), at least pluck the full sentence... It works much better that way, and it doesn't appear you are twisting, turning, and spinning  as much as you do here on the threads...

I think you're too intelligent to believe that Tony Rezko's wife just happened to be in the market to buy an "investment" property at the same time that Obama was trying to buy his house. It was also just a coincidence that the "investment' property that she "found" happened to be an empty lot right next door to the house that Obama wanted to buy but couldn't afford because the seller wanted to sell both the house and empty lot as a package deal. I'm sure that Mrs Rezko had no idea that Obama was interested in buying this house but not the vacant lot. I'm sure it was just a coincidence that Mrs Rezko found and bought this vacant lot as an investment property at the exact same time that Obama was trying to buy the house next door. I'm sure that they were both "surprised" to later learn that they owned property next to each other.

As far as white voters not voting for him because he's an extreme liberal, they don't need to read how some organization rates him. All they have to do is hear what comes out of his mouth to know that his extreme liberal ideas do not match up to what they believe in.

If McCain not knowing how many houses that he and his wife owns is a problem then what kind of a problem is it for Obama when he says he never once heard any hate speech from his pastor, the reverend Wright, during the entire 20 years that he attended his church.

Cindy McCain is a very wealthy woman and the reason that she's wealthy is because her father took a risk and started a beer distributing business with $ 10,000 of borrowed money after serving in World War II and it became very successfull. It would be called the American dream by most, but not all, people. If Cindy McCain wants to buy 7 houses or 70 and has the money to do it more power to her. Why is it that Ted Kennedy and his family can own property in Palm Beach, Aspen and Hyannisport that was purchased with money that was made by his father's illegal bootlegging business and that's never a problem with liberals.

I am smart enough to read factcheck (an organization that has the time, staff, and funding available to do a complete job researching claims) and understand what they write.  And I am also smart enough to know that rightwing talk radio has lied about just about everything imaginable.

"A political patron from whom he bought a strip of land is under federal indictment, but there's no evidence Obama did anything improper.

Here’s what happened: In 2005, Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, bid $1.65 million for a house on the south side of Chicago. According to newspaper reports, the owner was also trying to sell an undeveloped parcel of land adjacent to the property Obama was buying, and he wanted the sales of the two to close on the same day. Obama has said that he mentioned he was buying the house to a longtime political patron, Antoin (Tony) Rezko, a developer. Rezko’s wife wound up buying the lot adjacent to Obama’s. At the request of the Obamas, who were seeking a bit more space for their yard, she later sold them a 10-foot wide strip, or about one-sixth, of her land. The Obamas paid $104,500 for it, or about one-sixth of what Mrs. Rezko had paid for the entire property.

Obama doesn’t appear to have reaped any financial advantages from the transactions. The reason the deal has received a good bit of attention is that Tony Rezko – whose political contributions to Illinois’ former governor, Obama and others totaled in the hundreds of thousands of dollars
was known to be under federal investigation at the time the Obamas were purchasing their home."

Probably no more than NBC, CBS, or any other mainstream liberal media source.

According to Obama and his interview with O'Reilly he attended that church about twice a month for 20 years and he never heard hate speech from the pulpit.  My experience with Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, et al. is that they normally don't say something one time and let it go.  These guys are every bit as racist as the Klan.

When black republicans are saying they are going to vote for Obama because he's black, that's racism.  No other way to cut it.

And I don't consider them as an accurate, completely honest source either.  I have not ever posted information received from a news source without having researched it first, on here or on any other forum.

I guess Elkhart High School then college taught me different standards, but no one source is ever going to be enough.  And studying the source, who funds the source, what else that source has written are all something that has to be checked before I will consider it as a source.

You know real estate transactions like the Obama's and Rezko's must happen all of the time. Why Barrack and Tony must have been  nothing more than just a couple of buddies who liked watching the Bears games together on TV. Even if Tony was born in Syria he still loved watching da bears play foosball with his good buddy Barrack. Why who wouldn't want to help out a buddy to the tune of $ 625,000 who couldn't afford the house he wanted.

The conversation must have gone something like this during halftime of the 2005 Bears-Packers game.

Obama: Hey Tony I'm looking at buying this house and the guy wants $ 1.6 mill for it but he won't sell it to me unless I buy the lot he owns next to it for another $ 625 thou. He had listed the two properties separetely but now he says he'll only sell them together as a unit. Hey man I really want that house but I can't afford to spend $ 2.2 million. I'm really in a bind here. If I don't get this house Michelle is going to be really PO'd at me

Rezko: Hey Barrack pass me the chips and dip and don't worry about getting the house. I'll just have my wife buy the lot next door and you can get your house. What da ya think friends are for good buddy.

Obama: That would be really cool man but why would you do that. You don't want me to pull any politicial strings for ya do ya. If you did it could look bad for me. You know $ 625 thou is a lot of dough and I don't want this to come back and bite me someday.

Rezko: No way I'd want you to do anything for me. Hey I'm an up and up honest business man and I'd never ask a buddy like you to do anything for me for a measley $ 625 thou favor. After all you're my good buddy and you've got Muslim blood the same as me. Anyway I'd be happy to do this for any of my friends even if they weren't politicians. Why I do this kinda stuff all the time.

Obama: Ok Tony. Man it's good to have friends like you but I'm still worried this could look bad for me someday.

Rezko: Hey shut your mouth and stop worrying so much. It's a done deal. Anyway how could this ever look bad for you. It's an arm's length transaction so how could anyone ever bitch about it. You're way too paranoid.

Obama: You're right Tony. I'm cool with it now.

Rezko: That's the way to think good buddy. Hey by the way I'm thinkin about doing this new building project for the poor seniors and I need a little help from the boys in Springfield. Can ya give me a hand with that good buddy.

Obama: Well uh uh uh uh uh uh uh I guess I could.

Rezko: Now you're talking good buddy. Let's get that house bought for ya first and then we'll talk. Hey how about another beer partner.

Gram, and here I thought you said you were a business owner.  But seeing somebody buy and then sell property making money makes you see illegal.  Not a very smart businessman then.  Now, Obama buying a strip of about 10 foot strip appraised at 40,000 dollars for 104,500 dollars doesn't should like a very shrewd business move on Obama's part.  But Mrs. Rezko buying and then selling the property for a 54,500 dollar profit does sound like a pretty smart business deal.  We could if you like start discussing the McCain family trips for free to the property of a Savings and Loan owner, that years later were paid back if you really wish to look at a true violation and scandal.  That at least would be better than trying to make up something and then to try and keep spreading it even after the truth is out and no scandal exist.

"When the Obamas wanted to increase the size of their yard, they approached the Rezkos about purchasing a strip of the adjacent parcel. Obama told the Sun-Times that a 10-foot strip of the 60-foot lot appraised for $40,000. The Obamas nevertheless paid Rita $104,500 (or 1/6 of the total purchase price of her lot) for the strip. In 2007, Rita sold the remaining lot for $575,000 (or roughly a $54,500 profit on the overall property).

McCain's ad, however, is worded in a way that could leave a false impression. It says Rezko "helped him buy his million-dollar mansion" by "purchasing part of the property he couldn't afford." That's true, but only because the seller wanted to sell the two parcels as a unit and the Obamas couldn't afford both. Rezko did not make a gift of any property to the Obamas. Furthermore, the fact that his wife sold her lot for more than she paid for it contradicts any suggestion that the Rezkos overpaid for their part of the deal as a way of getting the seller to lower the price to the Obamas for their part.

Obama said himself that it was a mistake to get involved in the purchase of this partial lot from Rezko. Why did he say that? After all he paid Rezko $ 100,000 for something that was supposedly appraised for $ 40,000. Guess you don't understand that if you have a "friendly" apprasier it wouldn't be hard to get them to set the appraised value at whatever value you wanted. Especially if it's less than the market value. Why do you think one of the reasons the current mortgage market is so screwed up. If you say because "friendly" appraisers did phony appraisals (in this case on the high side) you'd be correct. Tony Rezko was a real estate developer so I'm sure he knew a lot of friendly appraisers.

Why would Obama pay 150% over the appraised value of this property or any property for that matter. I'd say it was part of an overall agreement with Rezko so he could buy this house. Either that or he is stupid.

So Mrs Rezko made a big profit buying and selling this property. Did she really? Most if not all of this so called $ 54,000 profit would have been eaten up in real estate commissions and closing costs in the buying and selling of this property. And her entire $ 54,000 profit was supposedly made off of the piece Obama bought. Without the "'profit" she made off of Obama she would have lost money. If she actually made a profit the net profit she made after costs would have been very small. Perhaps $ 10 or $ 15 thousand dollars. A savy real estate investor wouldn't walk across the street and pay $ 625,000 for a property that was only going to make them a 2% net profit. They'd earn more leaving it in the bank.

I don't care if Obama did some wheeling and dealing to buy this house. That's not the problem. The problem is the fact that he did it with a very shady character. One that did it because Obama could be useful to him as a senator. If Obama says that he had no idea that Rezko was shady or crooked he's either not telling the truth or again he is showing that he's a very poor judge of character and doesn't care who his friends are. People like the reverend Wright and William Ayres come to mind. That poor judgement is not what we need in a president when he's filling his cabinet or is dealing with foreign leaders.
