I have never responded one way or the other to anything that you have said here, but I am going to break my silence and say bravo.

People have so much allegiance to political parties and I can't possibly understand why that they often have very narrow minds about the candidates that the party supports.

McCain and Obama are both not their political party's first pick...which is a great start though.

Neither one will be the messiah and both offer hope and risks...

You're right Rick. And you posted a similar reply on another post that I also agree with.

I mostly don't bother to read the posts attached to national political articles because they always remind me of being at a dysfunctional family dinner table at Thanksgiving. There is always some point during the conversation that you wish you had been seated at the children's table.

Anyone who thinks their candidate is the next second coming or is any "better" than the other guy is in for a rude awakening. Even if Jesus were resurrected and got elected President there are too many forces that come into play for any one man to save a nation. Get real. Stop glorifying and villainizing people you will never know and stop talking about them as if you do. It makes you look foolish. Pick one, shut up, and keep your fingers crossed. That is all you can do.

They are all at fault.

The political backbiting and spinning that has hit the circuit since the introduction of sarah palin is pathetic and disgusting and I suggest the democrats find a new song if they are to have any chance of winning this election.

Now that the head of the republican party Sen. John McCain and his second fidel Sarah Palin are supporting corporate socialism with the baillout of Wall Street; think maybe they might throw some crumbs our way? This sudden conversion has to be the biggest political lie so for in the 21st century....

I can't wait to watch all of the social conservatives spin this one after spending months painting Sen. Obama as the father of socialism... Should be good....

The truth is, local republicans will take a hard right turn to divert attention... They will start posting on abortion, right to life, any thing they can use to divert attention off of the real Sen. John McCain, and the second fidel he brought down into the lower 48.

no problem m4 ..... but if yo learn how to litigate [judicial combat] this crap won't happen to ya, and you'll never see a bill from any lawyer ---- hence the knowledge is invaluable, especially so for those earning so little ---- crap 7 bucks an hour, one has to work 30 to 60 hours just to buy one hour from an attorney --- get the knowledge and that is money one need not earn .....

Really. I was fired from a company because one of my co-worker's complained to my boss that I was humming "Joy to the World" 4 days before Christmas. I was doing this in my cubicle so quietly that the boss, upon walking past my cubicle couldn't hear me. Better check those law books again.

Besides using a taser on a stepson, for no apparent reason, and insubordination on behalf of the Public Safety Director sounds like two very good reasons for firing an individual.

m4 -- I don't believe it was you and I, and I read the posts following this post only to find that "somewhere" "someone" thought there was "cause" to let you go from the job. Moreove as I read you explainations following, your experience exemplify why I enourage everyone to know "judicial combat"... You might not be short that commission owed you and you may well have had a retailtory discharge claim against the company .... very lucrative those retalitory discharges.

The "at will employment doctrine" is meant to avoid mere employment from constituting a legally enforcible "employment contract" ..... Do you know anyone has ever who collected unemployment for, as it is termed by Indiana unemployment law, "discharged without cause and through no fault of your own doing" ... I know a plenty ....

Now in defense of any misconceptions ...... certainly "business" and most obnoxious bosses will tell you "at will means .....", but ask the company lawyer and you may find that I am right because unlike yourself m4 ...... I have read alot of law over the years.

You caught me. I plead guilty. Here is the rest of the story. I had a customer who didn't get all of the pieces that they ordered with their bedroom furniture for several weeks. When asking my boss about why this happened (4 different times) I got four different answers, but the best one was "There isn't anything we can do about it."

Same boss I alluded to some time ago who refused to pay me the $1500 commission that I had earned the previous month. I asked 3 times why I wasn't getting that commission and I got 3 different answers.

By the way did I mention that these are the same guys who had been giving various sales persons sales and crediting them to other sales people as well as paying those other sales people the commissions. See I was just too smart for them, and so is my 11 year old.

Barry - you are the gift that just keeps giving. I see you are still stuck on the cheerleader theme. Her leadership experience far surpasses that of a community organizer in a corrupt city ran by Democrats.

Let's see how things are fairing where Barack organized communities... in the last 6 months 292 murders in Chicago (only 221 killed in Iraq and the all-mighty still supports gun restrictions). State pension fund is $44 billion in debt which is the worst in the country. Cook county (Chicago) sales tax is 10.25% which is the highest in the country. If He is everything that has been advertised then why doesn't He first try to fix Chicago?

Think about this...

One, Palin is in no shape ready to be released on her own (The media would eat her up), let alone be a heart beat away from the Presidency... Nevada was a photo op, not a coming out party for the VP candidate (she was hushed)... The McCain campaign has already announced she will rejoin Sen. McCain for a five state sweep... This folks is by design. She is starting to appear as the young naive secretary guarding the door to the boss’s office.

Newt G. is already on the air waves saying the McCain / Palin ticket may be peaking... The concerning issue is he may be correct, and all democrats should be concerned given the time left in the campaign. The race is in fact becoming more of a timing issue.

Biden is finding himself in a unique position of defending his experience or to be viewed as a bully picking on a beauty queen runner up... It may do the party well to remember she was in fact a runner up and not the winner, but who knows at this point.

Palin clearly has more draw power then the top of the republican ticket, the ability to stream two sentences together, and the frenziedly ability to invoke the base.

What this lady lacks for in experience and exposure to the real world, she is making up for in her cheerleading ability for the republican base and should not be overlooked... While the seconds have not over-whelmed the end result, this election could be different if people don’t pay attention now... Electing a President based on the Vice President may be more important then it has ever been in American history... Think about it, given our history....

Ok, Gram, I read all of your supposes and inuendo and facts now we could read some other facts. These do have a pretty good foundation in truth because the US Senate Ethics Committee gave him a mild rebuke for intervening with regulators during the course of their investigation. So, while you suppose that something had to be wrong with Obama's purchase of a home at the same time a friend's wife bought the adjoining property, McCain has a case that he did receive free trips (until paid for many years later), received the most contirbutions of the five senators involved and was 'rebuked' by the Ethics Committee.

Remember those who wish to throw stones should be very careful if they also live in glass houses.

"But McCain made a critical error.

In spinning his side of the Keating story, McCain adopted the blanket defense that Keating was a constituent and that he had every right to ask his senators for help. In attending the meetings, McCain said, he simply wanted to make sure that Keating was treated like any other constituent.

Keating was far more than a constituent to McCain, however.

On Oct. 8, 1989, The Republic revealed that McCain's wife and her father had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators.

The paper also reported that the McCains, sometimes accompanied by their daughter and baby-sitter, had made at least nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard the American Continental jet. Three of trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay.

McCain also did not pay Keating for the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln. Total cost: $13,433.

When the story broke, McCain did nothing to help himself. When reporters first called him, he was furious. Caught out in the open, the former fighter pilot let go with a barrage of cover fire. Sen. Hothead came out in all his glory.

''You're a liar,''' McCain snapped Sept. 29 when a Republic reporter asked him about business ties between his wife and Keating.

''That's the spouse's involvement, you idiot,'' McCain said later in the same conversation. ''You do understand English, don't you?''

He also belittled the reporters when they asked about his wife's ties to Keating.

''It's up to you to find that out, kids.''

And then he played the POW card.

''Even the Vietnamese didn't question my ethics,'' McCain said.

The paper ran the story a few days later. At a news conference, McCain was a changed man. He stood calmly for 90 minutes and answered every question.

On the shopping center, his defense was simple. The deal did not involve him. The shares in the shopping center had been purchased by a partnership set up between McCain's wife and her father.

But McCain also had to explain his trips with Keating and why he didn't pay Keating back right away.

On that score, McCain admitted he had fouled up. He said he should have reimbursed Keating immediately, not waited several years. His staff said it was an oversight, but it looked bad, McCain jetting around with Keating, then going to bat for him with the federal regulators.

Meanwhile, Lincoln continued to founder.

In April 1989, two years after the Keating Five meetings, the government seized Lincoln, which declared bankruptcy. In September 1990, Keating was booked into Los Angeles County Jail, charged with 42 counts of fraud. His bond was set at $5 million.

Among the Keating Five, McCain received the most direct contributions from Keating. But the investigation found that he was the least culpable, along with Glenn.

In the end, McCain received only a mild rebuke from the Ethics Committee for exercising ''poor judgment'' for intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Keating. Still, he felt tarred by the affair.

''The appearance of it was wrong,'' McCain said recently. ''It's a wrong appearance when a group of senators appear in a meeting with a group of regulators, because it conveys the impression of undue and improper influence. And it was the wrong thing to do.''"

The reality is these petty attacks will only increase in the coming weeks. Each side doing their best to market their brand, all the while attacking the other brand as inferior and harmful. This is the state of politics today. George Washington warned us about having separate parties.

Wow, I can't believe this thread is still going. If the amount of dirt, lies, and mud slinging that is going on around here is any indication, this is going to be some mud fest of an election.

You know what, I don't care if Palin fired 20 state troopers, this is an "at will" state, just like Indiana, and that is just the way it is. This is a non-issue, and the longer the democrats keep shoving it in our face the worse they look. The democrats are scared to death of Sarah Palin and they are making fools of themselves.

The American people do not care about troopergate, we care about gas prices, the economy, the ever increasing threat from countries like Iran, social security, and a tax burden that now has most Americans working until May before they get to start making money for themselves.

It is time for Americans to wake up and stop sucking from the tit of the press and the spinmasters on both sides of the isle. They don't give a sh*t about you, they have their own agenda, and it doesn't include the average working American.

We've got real problems people, and if we don't address the real issues pretty soon, we are doomed as a nation.

Having miller critique a source is a little strange what with his choice of YouTube, Wikepedia, and blogs in the past.

I do agree that one has to look at past information from a source, as well as current information from a source in evaluating that information and that source. And even more important is the motif of that source and their normal supply of information.

Using that as a criteria, then that also rules out FoxNews and talk radio, and any number of magazines and newspapers. If that is a good rule for one side, then it is as good of a rule for the other side. So, Becca and miller, no more of the very slanted your way sources either.

And, by the way, did you hear that ABC has admitted to "editing" the Charlie Gibson/Palin interview in a way that would be percieved as negative by many in the population. Hey McCain/Palin, that's why you should do only live interviews like the Saddlebrook Forum or nothing at all. There is simply too much at stake.

You will take any petty bit of info against Palin and put a negative spin on it. How about this spin, Palin is a reformer, she shook things up at every level, replacing corrupt politicians with qualified people, whom she knew from experience, that would serve the people rather than themselves.

If it's dirt you are looking for, I think you need to revisit the Messiah's past. There is plenty that he and his 2500 advisors are trying to keep secret.

Obama said himself that it was a mistake to get involved in the purchase of this partial lot from Rezko. Why did he say that? After all he paid Rezko $ 100,000 for something that was supposedly appraised for $ 40,000. Guess you don't understand that if you have a "friendly" apprasier it wouldn't be hard to get them to set the appraised value at whatever value you wanted. Especially if it's less than the market value. Why do you think one of the reasons the current mortgage market is so screwed up. If you say because "friendly" appraisers did phony appraisals (in this case on the high side) you'd be correct. Tony Rezko was a real estate developer so I'm sure he knew a lot of friendly appraisers.

Why would Obama pay 150% over the appraised value of this property or any property for that matter. I'd say it was part of an overall agreement with Rezko so he could buy this house. Either that or he is stupid.

So Mrs Rezko made a big profit buying and selling this property. Did she really? Most if not all of this so called $ 54,000 profit would have been eaten up in real estate commissions and closing costs in the buying and selling of this property. And her entire $ 54,000 profit was supposedly made off of the piece Obama bought. Without the "'profit" she made off of Obama she would have lost money. If she actually made a profit the net profit she made after costs would have been very small. Perhaps $ 10 or $ 15 thousand dollars. A savy real estate investor wouldn't walk across the street and pay $ 625,000 for a property that was only going to make them a 2% net profit. They'd earn more leaving it in the bank.

I don't care if Obama did some wheeling and dealing to buy this house. That's not the problem. The problem is the fact that he did it with a very shady character. One that did it because Obama could be useful to him as a senator. If Obama says that he had no idea that Rezko was shady or crooked he's either not telling the truth or again he is showing that he's a very poor judge of character and doesn't care who his friends are. People like the reverend Wright and William Ayres come to mind. That poor judgement is not what we need in a president when he's filling his cabinet or is dealing with foreign leaders.

Gram, and here I thought you said you were a business owner. But seeing somebody buy and then sell property making money makes you see illegal. Not a very smart businessman then. Now, Obama buying a strip of about 10 foot strip appraised at 40,000 dollars for 104,500 dollars doesn't should like a very shrewd business move on Obama's part. But Mrs. Rezko buying and then selling the property for a 54,500 dollar profit does sound like a pretty smart business deal. We could if you like start discussing the McCain family trips for free to the property of a Savings and Loan owner, that years later were paid back if you really wish to look at a true violation and scandal. That at least would be better than trying to make up something and then to try and keep spreading it even after the truth is out and no scandal exist.

Why Barrack and Tony must have been nothing more than just a couple of buddies who liked watching the Bears games together on TV. Even if Tony was born in Syria he still loved watching da bears play foosball with his good buddy Barrack. Why who wouldn't want to help out a buddy to the tune of $ 625,000 who couldn't afford the house he wanted.

The conversation must have gone something like this during halftime of the 2005 Bears-Packers game.

Obama: Hey Tony I'm looking at buying this house and the guy wants $ 1.6 mill for it but he won't sell it to me unless I buy the lot he owns next to it for another $ 625 thou. He had listed the two properties separetely but now he says he'll only sell them together as a unit. Hey man I really want that house but I can't afford to spend $ 2.2 million. I'm really in a bind here. If I don't get this house Michelle is going to be really PO'd at me

And I don't consider them as an accurate, completely honest source either. I have not ever posted information received from a news source without having researched it first, on here or on any other forum.

I guess Elkhart High School then college taught me different standards, but no one source is ever going to be enough. And studying the source, who funds the source, what else that source has written are all something that has to be checked before I will consider it as a source.
